Call to Action
Are you a member of Beta Kappa Chapter? Have you considered serving on our executive committee?
Our chapter is growing and becoming more active every year, and we need YOU to help us! New officers mean new ideas and new energy for the chapter. Whether you are in a public, academic, special or school library, Beta Phi Mu is an awesome way to serve your state’s library community.
What does a Beta Phi Mu Beta Kappa Chapter executive committee member do, you ask? We meet 4 times a year to discuss chapter business. As an honors society, our primary mission is to find ways to honor librarians for the awesome work that they’re doing, so our primary function is to honor a librarian of the year in our state. We also try to nominate a librarian from our state for the national Beta Phi Mu award. There are several other, smaller projects that we work on each year, so there is plenty to do.
This year, Beta Kappa Chapter is holding elections for the positions of Secretary and Vice-President/President Elect.
Secretary: attends quarterly EC meetings, records and reports minutes, and is responsible for maintaining and managing the chapter’s official records. (2 year commitment)
Vice-President/President-Elect: attends quarterly meetings, works on special projects, assists in compiling nominations for state and national beta phi mu awards and works on special projects (6 year commitment- 2 years as vice president, 2 years as president, 2 years as past-president).
Elections will be held at our Annual meeting 24 April 2014 at 4 PM during the Alabama Library Association Convention. Nominations can be announced during the business meeting, or can be sent ahead of time to email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
See you in Huntsville!
